The University of Manchester has found that the magnetic fields (磁场) created by mobile phones and power lines are not harmful to human health. However, previous studies suggested electromagnetic fields from mobile devices and power cables could cause cancer, including research in the 1970s which suggested they could be linked to childhood leukaemia (白血病).

Consequently, the International Agency for Research on Cancer has considered that low frequency magnetic fields might cause cancer while the National Health Service advises against using mobiles for long periods, and warns against children using them for unnecessary calls.

Consequently, the International Agency for Research on Cancer has considered that low frequency magnetic fields might cause cancer while the National Health Service advises against using mobiles for long periods, and warns against children using them for unnecessary calls.

It was thought that magnetic fields could harm key proteins in the human body. But the University of Manchester has now found that they have no detectable influence at all. Researchers looked at how weak magnetic fields (WMFs) affected flavoproteins (黄素蛋白), which are important to health and control the nervous system and DNA repair. If these proteins go wrongt then there are serious knock-on effects on human health. But after subjec-ting them to WMFs in the labt, it became clear that they were completely unaffected.

Professor Nigel Scrutton , from the Faculty of Life Sciences, added, "More work on other possible links will need to be done but the study from the University of Manchester definitely believable. It takes us nearer to the point where we can say that power lines, mobile phones and other similar devices are likely to be safe for humans. "

A study in 2010, by a Health Protection Agency group set up to examine the safety of moble phones, transmitter masts and Wi-Fi,,found "no convincing evidence” that they caused any bad effects on human health. However, members of the National Health Service said they could not be sure of the long-term effects of mobiles, as there was currently "little information beyond 15 years from first exposure". The study is continuing.

  32. What does the National Health Service suggest people do about mobile phones?

  A. Upgrade them frequently.

  B. Avoid using them for too long.#p#分页标题#e#

  33. What does Nigel Scrutton about the study from the University of Manchester?

A.It is unexpected. B.It is reliable.

C.It is unacceptable. D.It is ridiculous.

34.What can we infer from the text?

  A. Flavoproteins play a vital role in the human body.

  B. The study on the safety of mobile phones has come to an end.

  C. WMFs can result in navoproteins failing to function normally.

  D. The key proteins in the human body keep people away from WMFs.

  35. What can be the best title for the text?

A.Are WMFs from Mobile Phones Ukely to Harm Human Health?

  B. Technological Advancement of Modern Mobile Phones

  C. Are You Really Careful about Using Your Mobile Phones?

  D. Wrong Beliefs in the Information Security on Mobile Phones
